Here You Are, There You Go

Underneath the shadow of a golden sparrow
We lay awake to ward off sleep
Kissing all our eyes was a newborn bride
She whistled as she wept

Here you are
Shining like a star
But shaking like a leaf on a tree
There you go
Drifting through the snow
Trying to find out exactly who you are

Blankets under stars and a sign to call up arms
Was the matter of urgency
We ran into the river in an early morning shiver
To write our names in history

Dressing all our scars under the union bars
To live a life of luxury
Reading all our news in the tabloid blues
Discovering our deep and dirty past
