Another Found Self

Prisoner's Song

The sun sets overtop of me as I sit and watch the world pass me by.
Sometimes it gets the best of me.
Half the time I wonder why I try.
They put me in captivity, they say that it will help me get on track.
If my debt is to society, I know that I can never pay it back.

Dig a ditch and fill it with my soul.
I can't be a prisoner no more.

To all I loved, to all I left, to all the dreams I had, to promises I never kept.
And to my unborn child, to my wife's wide smile, please try to live your lives without me.
I'll be gone for awhile.

I heard from her the other day.
My wife, my life, my love, my joy, my pain.
She said that it would be okay, but I know without me she'll never be the same.
Soon she'll be the mother of a little child that I helped to create.
He'll grow up to discover that his daddy wasn't there because of fate.

Tell my son I love him once he's here.
And that I'll love him more and more as he grows throughout the years.

To all I loved, to all I left, to all the dreams I had, to promises I never kept.
And to my unborn child, to my wife's wide smile, please try to live your lives without me.
I'll be gone for awhile.

To all I loved, to all I left, to all the dreams I had, to promises I never kept.
And to my unborn child, to my wife's wide smile, please try to live your lives without me.
I'll be gone for awhile
