E Ten years ago on a cold dark night
There was B someone killed 'neath the Am town hall E light
E There were few at the scene and they all did agree
That the B man who ran looked a Am lot like E me.
E The judge said, "Son, what is your alibi?
If you were B somewhere else then Am you won't have to E die."
E I said not a word though it meant my life,
I had B been in the arms of my Am best friend's E wife.
Am She walks these E hills Am in a long black E veil.
Am She visits my gr E ave Am when the night winds E wail.
E Nobody knows, no, and Am nobody E sees; E nobody B knows but Am me.
E The scaffold was high and eternity near
She B stood in the crowd and Am shed not a E tear
E But sometimes at night when the cold wind moans
In a B long black veil she Am cries over my E bones.
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave where the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me.
