^E I said not a word though it meant my life,
I had ^B been in the arms of my ^Am best friend's ^E wife.
^Am She walks these ^E hills ^Am in a long black ^E veil.
^Am She visits my gr ^E ave ^Am when the night winds ^E wail.
^E Nobody knows, no, and ^Am nobody ^E sees; ^E nobody ^B knows but ^Am me.
^E The scaffold was high and eternity near
She ^B stood in the crowd and ^Am shed not a ^E tear
^E But sometimes at night when the cold wind moans
In a ^B long black veil she ^Am cries over my ^E bones.
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave where the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me.
