I am driving up 85 in the
kind of morning that lasts all afternoon
just stuck inside the gloom
Four more exits to my apartment but
I am tempted to keep the car in drive
and leave it all behind
Cause I wonder sometimes
about the outcome
of a still verdictless life
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Why, why Georgia, why?
I rent a room and I fill the spaces with
wood in places to make it feel like home
but all I feel's alone
It might be a quarter life crisis
or just the stirring in my soul
Either way, I wonder sometimes
about the outcome
of a still verdictless life
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Why, why Georgia, why?
So what, so I've got a smile on me
but it's hiding the quiet superstitions in my head
Don't believe me
Don't believe me
When I say I've got it down
Everybody is just a stranger but
that's the danger in going my own way
I guess it's the price I have to pay
still "Everything happens for a reason"
is no reason not to ask myself
If I'm living it right
Am I living it right?
Why, tell me why
Why, why Georgia why?

Tastes sweet | Reviewer: Jared | 12/19/10
Everybody has their own taste in music. But that doesn't mean we all can't tell others what we think in a song. For example, this song, Why Georgia, tastes sweet. It is the type of music I usually listen to. However, I do like some metal, hard rock, alternative and original rock. That doesn't mean I can't like sad, classical music, like John Mayer's. Besides, different tastes in music are actually not supposed to be bad or good. If we all have pretty much different tastes, then why should we be so rude to other people? Opinions, guys.

I am a totally dedicated Coldplay girl. But John Mayer is now the only other muso I ever want to listen to, apart from them. I recorded some of his shows on cable to learn more about his music after booking to see him in May this year in Sydney. I knew not much beforehand. But I just love this song. Love it.

John Mayer... | Reviewer: Girl in the Green Hoodie | 12/16/09
He is such an amazing musician and songwritter. John Mayer inspires me soooo much, and I'm in love with his voice. Every morning I listen to Stop This Train(which if you haven't heard...you need to), and just feel like it's okay that I'm leaving for college after this Summer. His music is real and it speaks to people; I think it's a lot more expressive than some of the more popular things playing on the radio. Plus, Your Body is a Wonderland is, like, completely swoon-worthy...because did I mention his voice is like magic?!

The song is about living in Georgia, not a girl named Georgia. He is talking about driving route 85 (not 85 mph), how he's unhappy living alone in GA, and how he's thinking about leaving town.
Excellent song.. (esp b/c I also live alone in GA and wonder how or why I ended up here)

there's somthing about john mayer. you can't really put him into a genre because he seems to have created one all his own...he's a terrific singer and an unmatched lyricist.
as for this song, it's beautiful. i see music in color, and this is bright green, sky blue, and summer yellow, with some snow white thrown in. =]
The REAL Story | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/30/08
As for the origin of this song, I was just at John Mayer's Summer Tour 2008 concert in, where else, Georgia. Before playing this song, he explained how it was created. Once at the beginning of his career (which did start in Atlanta), he was on his way to a small gig and was driving down 85 when he realized that he had forgotten his guitar. When he arrived, an hour and a half late, he explained and apologized to the waiting audience of four...in song. "I was driving down 85 and..." When this on the spot tune was combined with a chorus he had been working on already, "Why Georgia" was created. Hope that enlightens anyone who was wondering.

John Mayer posesses all three songwriting talents (musician, lyricist, singer) in such deep proportion that it doesn't seem fair. If he keeps the balance of his trinity of talents, he will surpass all that came before him.
