Check Your Pocket

I saw her back in grade school,
she was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen,
and talkin' made me sound like a damn fool,
and I hadn't quite kick that st-st-stutter
I gave up on the whole thing,
thinkin' of the way, prayin' for the day,
hopin' that the stars would align,
and someday she be mine.

Well, high school finally rolled around,
so did my chance,
just kept my business under one half minute,
when I asked her to go to the dance.

She said yes and when the night was over,
I had her in my hand, that picture we took
with my arms wrapped around her,
by the gym concession stand.

Oh, before that night was over,
I wrote a couple words,
First chance I got, I snuck that picture in her purse,
and it said hold me, fold me,
slip me in the pocket of your favorite old blue jeans,
ball me up and spin me clean,
leave me outside in the sunshine honey,
roll me, lose me underneath a pile of your new things,
forget you ever knew me then,
check your pockets some day and find me again.

Wo-oh....wo-oh.

Well....,
she went off to college,
and I'm off to do my thing,
I was hangin' out late one night drinkin' pitchers,
with some friends at the Kitchen Sink, eh...,
I'd had to rub my eyes and look again to just be sure,
that girl I'd knew then came back woman and she'd walk into dat door.

Before we left she pulled a napkin from her shirt,
it had her number on it,
underneath the words....
and it said hold me, fold me,
slip me in the pocket of your favorite old blue jeans,
ball me up and spin me clean,
leave me outside in the sunshine honey,
roll me, lose me underneath a pile of your new things,
forget you ever knew me then,
check your pockets some day and find me again.

Hey.....
Check your pocket....
Check your pocket....
Uh....
Ya....

And it said hold me, fold me,
slip me in the pocket of your favorite old blue jeans,
ball me up and spin me clean,
leave me outside in the sunshine honey,
roll me, lose me underneath a pile of your new things,
forget you ever knew me then,
check your pockets....and find me again.

Hold me, fold me,
slip me in the pocket of your favorite old blue jeans,
ball me up and spin me clean,
leave me outside in the sunshine honey,
roll me, lose me underneath a pile of your new things,
forget you ever knew me then,
check your pockets some day, cause I'd be there,
hold me, hold me, cause I'd be there,
I'd be there....

Cause I'd be there,
roll me, lose me, I'd be there,
I'd be there,
roll me, lose me, cause I'd be there
roll me, lose me, [cause I'd be there...] underneath the pocket of your favorite old blue jeans
cause I'd be there.....
