For me, this song has a completely different meaning. It's not a relationship song to me. It's a song that repeats what I feel, that I've made mistakes, I'm not perfect, I'm not angelic, but, I am trying to be myself. And I am saying this to life who has pushed me down everytime. But know what, I'll always stand up. No matter what. Because that's the way I am.

To me, this song has a meaning that goes beyond a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship type of thing. I am the mother of two school-aged children. Recently, I had to address the fact that my son was being bullied on his bus. The mother of the "other" child insisted that her son was not at fault. However, after speaking with the bus driver and school principle it was evident that this other child was causing all the problems and was in fact, bullying other kids. I feel that I am VINDICATED! The words in this song speak volumes. Thank you Dashboard Confessional!

I think is (obviously) about a couple that has broken...maybe by the girl´s decision, so he´s so hurt that his taking out all his deeper fellings, and at the moment he´s singing all of that, he´s realizing that her expectations were a little bit higher they should, so that is why his between guilty and relief (was or wasn´t my fault??) and at the end when he says "so let me slip away..." it´s not literally, he´s refering to his thoughts, because he still loves her...

I just read the first page of comments and re-read the lyrics, and they are all fitting (to me at least), but it means something different to me.
To me, this song talks about accepting who we are, good and bad,realizing how awesome we really are in times when we feel like we're worth nothing, accepting our flaws but try to work on them either for ourselves or for someone loved, trying to know who we are; about letting behind what certain people expect from us (parents and/or couple) and the things people don't like about us and putting them aside because we've learn to accept our true colors making us feel "vindicated" for not being afraid to say when we think we are right or wrong,etc...Something we knew all along we should've done, but were too overwhelmed, by others expectations, to actually do it.

it's funny how the same song could mean a thousand different things to different people. The first time that i heard this song, I was falling in love with someone. at that time, she meant the world to me, and i used to listen to this song, and used to think that i'm gonna become the best that she deserves ("cleaning up so well") and the hope of being with her was all that i could dream of. now that it's been 3 years since then, she's gone and I find myself listening to the same song... i find hope to be the chance of going back to a normal life. not be distracted and sad about it. and i have these theories in my head about why she left ... cause she never did give one... what was i saying?? ahhh songs... they always have different meanings to different people... the important thing is to relate to them and to be able to cherish those memories that they remind u of... at least that's what my dangling hope is :)
