This is a gentle old song. I think Nina Simone, Marlena Shaw and Barbara Lea all have done it justice. But for my money -- and it _is_ my money -- the most poignant version is by Spike Milligan. Yes, the Spike Milligan of the Goonies. His untrained tenor voice brings just the right hint of the common man's wistfulness.
